I don't particularly like my name. Rachel or Rebecca or Amanda or Megan would have been much prettier, but the person who gave birth to me thought it would be most appropriate. It happens to be short for ethanol which is made from corn and since so much of what I intend to write will seem rather corny to some, it seemed a fitting name.
When you stop and think about it, corn has been one of the most important crops mankind has ever cultivated. It fed much of Meso-America. It has been used to fatten hogs, feed cows, and in this last instance, produce fuel to run our vehicles. So having a name that is derived from such a useful product seems most fitting. A person who hails from the rurals and is rather simple in their humor and outlook on life is described as 'corny'. So, everything having been said, it is rather a compliment to be referred to as Ethyl.
To have a basic knowledge of how things grow, to appreciate the fact that if you don't produce enough food to feed your family you will go hungry come winter, to be able to improvise, to understand the basic principals of life and nature, in most instances is worth far more than a formal education.
