Tishomingo County is unlike any other county in the state. Whereas the vast majority of the state is flat rich fertile delta farm land, Tishomingo County is hilly. In fact, the highest point in the state is found there at Woodall Mountain, which rises to a staggering eight hundred and seven feet. The toenail of the Appalachian Mountain chain is located there, at Tishomingo State Park. So it can rightly be said that by and large the rest of the state of Mississippi regards those of us from Tishomingo County as hillbillies.
That having been said, in my opinion it is by far the prettiest county in the state, and at this point in my life, I have been in nearly all of them, and that even includes the Gulf Coast with it's sparking white sand beaches. The area is blessed with dancing creeks, laughing and splashing as they run over rocks, large lakes where fish abound, woods aplenty with great numbers of wildlife, and meandering county roads that twist and twine and end up virtually nowhere but just are. In the springtime those woods come alive with flowering dogwoods, wild azaleas (or as the locals like to call them, wild honeysuckle bushes) woodland violets, wild sweet william that smell so sweet it will almost give you a natural high.
Yes sir, Tishomingo County is Mississippi's best, and also most well kept secret.
